Cookie Policy
This page explains the use of cookie files on Winslow Arsenault. It is a plain description of what we store in your browser, why we store it, and how you can change your mind at any time.
Last updated
8 October 2026. This version replaces all earlier versions of this policy.
Applies to
Everyone who opens winslowarsenault.com and the pages published under it, whether you read one article or subscribe to the newsletter.
Who runs the site
Winslow Arsenault, 370 E 31st St, Brooklyn, NY 11226, USA. Questions about this page go to StacyPhillips@winslowarsenault.com or +17184628600 during office hours, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
The sections below explain each kind of cookie we set, what it does, and how long it stays in your browser. If you only want the short answer: the cookies that matter most keep the site secure and remember the choices you made in the consent notice.
Essential cookies
These carry the mechanics of the site and cannot be switched off for a signed-in reader. They do not follow you anywhere else.
What they store
A short session marker so the site remembers the page you requested, a security token that stops another site from submitting a form in your name, and a record of the consent choice you made in the notice that appears the first time you visit.
How long they last
Session cookies clear when you close the browser. Your consent record stays for twelve months so the notice does not appear on every visit, then expires and is requested again.
If you block them
Signing in, saving the newsletter form, and any page that posts a request will stop working. The articles themselves remain readable.
Analytics and preference cookies
Everything in this group is optional. If you leave the consent notice alone, or decline it later, none of these are written.
- Readership counts
- Tells us which articles are opened and which are ignored, so the desk knows what to commission next. The count is aggregated and never tied to your name.
- Reading settings
- Remembers display choices you make on the site, such as the section you last opened, so the front page is not reset every time you return.
- Referral source
- Records whether you arrived from a search result, a newsletter link, or a direct visit. It describes the route, not the reader, though it can include a coarse city-level location.
Declining analytics cookies changes how much we can learn about our own front page. It does not restrict any article, and it does not slow the site down.
Managing cookies in your browser
You can go around the consent notice entirely and manage cookie files from the browser itself. The exact wording differs by product, but the controls are in the same place.
-
Step one
Open the settings menu
In Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari, look under settings or preferences, then find the section headed privacy, site data, or content blocking.
-
Step two
List what is stored
Search the stored site data for winslowarsenault.com. You will see the entries described on this page, each with a date and an expiry.
-
Step three
Delete the ones you do not want
Removing the analytics entries has no effect on your reading. Removing the consent record means the notice will appear again on your next visit.
-
Step four
Notice a difference
After a sweep, the site loads clean. If a signed-in feature then asks you to verify again, that is expected and not a fault on your side.

Questions readers send us about cookies
Do I have to accept the analytics cookies to read the site?
No. Every article, section page, and archive page is readable either way. Declining only means we count fewer readers and learn less about which stories are being opened.
Do cookie files carry personal details about me?
They carry an identifier, not your name or your email address. Personal details are only stored when you send them to us yourself through the newsletter or contact form, and that handling is described in the privacy policy.
I changed my mind. How do I withdraw consent?
Open the consent notice again from the link in the site footer and switch the optional groups off. If you have already deleted the consent record in your browser, the notice will reappear on your next visit and you can choose there.
How will I know when this policy changes?
The date at the top of this page is updated whenever anything here changes, and the consent notice is reset so you can review the new wording before the optional cookies resume.
Ask us before you assume
If something on this page does not match what you see in your browser, write to us with the page you were reading and the browser you use. We answer the same day during office hours, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
